Anish Kapoor

Manchester City Art Gallery is now showing a Flashback of Kapoor's work. A variety of works exploring the different aspect's of Kapoor's work, from the small jelly mould like shapes smoothed in pigment to the wax and iron sculptures to the shiny shapes that reflect both sound and light. The 3D forms draw you in and keep you wondering what your really seeing. Is it a hole or a flat surface? It is very clever, as you move around each object you are shown something different and some of them hurt my eyes as it played with my optics and mind.

WEDGIE!

How AMAZING are these?! so amazing I had to buy both colours as i couldn't decide!

They were designed by Claire Milligan & Ruth Jones from London College of Fashion. A collaboration with high street retailer New Look saw the Girls go on to having their shoes made and sold in 25 New Look stores around the country and on their website HERE. They are limited edition so be quick! The shoes were circus inspired which makes them all the more appealing, the scalloped edging reminds me of bunting at a circus, or even ric-rac braid on a clown costume.

These beauties are by far my favourites within the collection! The yellow pair remind me of Lego & the black look super stylish. Claire has collaborated with Lego & Kickers in the past to create some uber cool children's shoes incorporating the classic Lego colours, brick prints & cute little Lego brick fastenings all on the classic mini Kickers boots.

Hurry hurry Claire make some more shoes!!

Cannes Vintage Posters

Cannes, a world renowned celebration of films from across the globe. Here a films fate can be decide, sink or swim. Awards are given to films, directors, actors, and actresses for the merit of their hard work. The rich and famous turn up,in their droves to the French town to wander down the red carpets as the cameras flash and the images published in all the gossip columns, who was wearing what, who is with who.

Illustrated by Jean-Denis Maillart.

Here are a some of the many vintage poster that have been used to advertise the Cannes Film Festival since 1946.
Conception by Information and Stratégie.

Illustrated by Folon

The international film festival was originally held in Venice in 1936 but got moved to France after a controversial judgement was made over awarding the overall winning film to "Olympia", commissioned by Joesph Goebbels, instead of the strongly favoured "La Grande Illusion" by Jean Renoir's. Which lead to resignations of judges. A campaign to the French government was made to start the festival in France. From much reluctance from the French government  Cannes was chosen for it's warm weather and charm. In 1939 the festival opened but closed the following night due to the out break of World War II.

Sun Goggles

Prada's Spring/Summer 2011 see these wondeful scroll like arms don theses sun glasses. Old fashioned fun fair art work jump to mind.   They go wonderful well with the very colourful womenswear collection Prada created, stripes and bananas a go, go.

Dior had some equally stylish sun glasses if not a bit more of a prudish look, very seceratial. Lovely colours and elongated frames, remind me of the 1950's.
Miu Miu Autumn 2011 has created a series of oversized glasses to protect your eyes from the low sun shine . The over sized thick frames in tortise shell, silver glitter and many a more colour ways add a sense of old fashioned Hollywood glamour.

Gucci Spring/Summer 2011

Frida Giannini created a sophiscated and varied collection, using an array of jewel like colours and textures, from glossy silk to the deep and heavy crafted tassled, knotted couture growns. The use of colour in this outfit works so well, all boucing off each other. Loud but sophiscated.  Wonderfully cut jacket amd tousers.

This dress will be used by many I'm sure to help them stand out at posh bashes, the gold beads, swinging tastles make a beautifully crafted piece.

The orange, gold, white knotted patterns in this dress whisk you away to a tropical island. Sun and fun.

These beautiful pieces of jewellery are created by the none other than Lez Nereides. A duo of talented, artistic designers, named Pascal and Enzo, who met in Belgium and decided to set up a shop in Nice in July 1980 selling luxury jewellery.

The brand has been growing ever since and now have shops around the world.

Onez Lau

Let your imagination run away with you in this amazing knitted horses head. Fun to be had. A fairy tale has sprung to life. One a lady who has graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2010 must have had fun creating her collection as well as working extreamly hard. which has paid off getting press in the national papers. Onez has inturned at Galliano, Mc Queen and Giles Deacon, to name just a few.

These pieces are full of creativity, playful-ness and makes life a whole lot less serious.

Tsumori Chisato

Tsumori Chisato of origin Japanese has worked for Issey Miyake, his encouragement prompted her to establish her own fashion label. And that she did in 1990 she launched her brand and which premiered at Japan's Fashion Week.

Tsumori designs are bright, colourful and fun. She uses intricate beading, embroidery, appliqués and prints of her own design. The statement glasses sum up her designs, loud, quirky and different. The orange lipstick and the soft colours make it a fresh, youthful image.

This knitted all in one suit shows us her alternative way of thinking, making a serious looking outfit fun and different. Tsumori now has a shop in Paris and launched a menswear label in 2003.

A lovely colourful intricately cut dress from her spring summer collection 2011. Wonderful.
