Lillian Bassman born June 15, 1917 in Brooklyn , took some wonderfully elegant fashion photographs which where published in Harper Bazaar. Bassman helped to promote the career of Richard Avedon and many others by side. In the late 60's she turned her back on photography, destroying negatives and took to the paint brush.
Irving Penn born in New Jersey and lived between June 16, 1917 – October 7, 2009 became a renowned fashion photographer capturing chic women in thousands of black and white images. Penn's first work to be published in Harper Bazaar wasn't a photograph but a drawing.
Martin Mackucsi , born in Hungry May 18, 1896, died July 13, 1963 was firsty a sports writer and photographer but captures movement and joy extremely well in these images. It was said he wanted to captured a splendid life and he did, traveling the world and eventually settling in New York. The end was not so sparkling, dieing in poverty with museums refusing to archive his work that is now scattered around the globe.
